On Wednesday, January 17, at 8:30 PM, I’m playing a set of songs from my new release, The Sun Never Went Down, at The Cinema, 3967 Sepulveda Blvd., Culver City 90230. This is a banjo-centered record and accordingly I’ll be playing a lot a five-string banjo and a five-string banjo/guitar. Joining me will be Claire Holley on vocals, Sarah Kramer on trumpet (both of whom appear on the CD), Denny Croy on upright bass, and Steve Mugalian on drums. There’s no cover charge, so buy a drink, please. Rick Shea and his fantastic band go on around 9:30. The Cinema is a neighborhood bar, small, warm, and relaxed.
The Sun Never Went Down is a collection of 16 songs I wrote mostly on banjo, augmented by bass, percussion, voices, electric piano, horns, guitars, and other instruments. I consider it the best record I have done. I hope you can come down, hear the music, and get a copy for yourself.
